 Sib Squad Peer Connection

Sib Squad  is a community group designed to promote peer connection among siblings facing similar needs and coping challenges related to having a brother or sister diagnosed with a serious childhood illness, disability, neurodivergence, injury or a foster sibling.

Sib Squad is designed to create opportunities to reduce feelings of isolation by connecting peers on common ground.

About

Rooted in Purpose:  Sib Squad Goals

Chilren don't easily, or automatically articulate with words.

It is not common to hear:

"Hey, I'm feeling stressed out about my sibling navigating challenging healthcare issues and as a result I'm feeling worried, resentful, burdened by extra responsibility, fearful, and isolated."

Sib Squad provides a therapeutic setting where children use play, movement, and opportunities for expression to process their feelings, learn words to describe their internal experiences, and develop coping outlets with peers navigating similar experiences.

Sib Squad promotes and supports hope and resilience.

The Developmental Interaction Approach

“To learn from experiences, children must engage directly and actively with the social and physical environment and be offered varied opportunities to see, hear, touch, smell, and taste their world. Thinking, sensing, feeling children make connections” - (Roopnarine, J. L., Johnson, J. E., Cuffaro, H. K., & Nager, N).
